What are the advantages of traditionally manufactured leather shoes?

Such shoes are more elaborately constructed than the vast majority of shoes common today. For example, they are sewn and are therefore not dependent on the reliability of an adhesive - seams simply hold more reliably. There is also a great deal of craftsmanship behind traditional leather shoes, which supports the walking movement with details such as heel height. Furthermore, such shoes consist for the most part of leather, which as a material is of higher quality than the many plastic variants common today. While these crumble over time or otherwise lose their original shape, leather lasts a very long time with appropriate care.

In addition, I see the following main advantages of leather shoes:

  • You are traveling more sustainably because you can have the shoes resoled by a cobbler. This allows you to enjoy your shoes for decades instead of throwing them away every one or two years.
  • The shoes look more attractive, especially if they are made of high-quality leather on the outside. However, you also have to do something to keep them that way: leather care.
  • The foot climate in the shoes is better: leather is permeable to wind and sweat. As a result, your feet do not swim in sweat so easily.

Traditional and modern shoes

Many of the shoes presented in this blog are well-known classics from classic men’s fashion and are worn, for example - but not only - with a jacket and trousers. You can also find many classic shoes here that go well with jeans, and anyway: there are many shoe variants that you can design for yourself from the basic models of classic men’s fashion. For example, look at the shoes on this page. They are based on classic models, but are loosened up by decorative elements so that you can combine them excellently with light-colored jeans. Personally, I call this shoe style the Boho style and see it as a modern way of wearing classic shoes.

In my eyes, you can replace your sneakers in everyday life quite well with such shoes, if you intend to do that anyway. By the way, Boho shoes generally fit the majority of your leisure outfits. Of course, you would also have to have, for example, the color-coordinated Boho shoes for a specific outfit - there will be no pair of universal Boho shoes for all possible garments. But there are shoes that are much more flexible in this regard than others.

Further models and other shoe styles

If you are already further along or are only interested in more conservative shoes, then you can expand your horizon about many classic shoe models and variants in the following post.

I think that many people don’t even know how many possibilities open up for shoes when they look beyond everyday sneakers. And once you have gotten to know different shoes and shoe styles, you can also say much better what you like yourself and what you don’t.
