Black Double Monks with a toe cap

These are somewhat ambivalent Double Monks: The black color and the minimal ornamentation suggest something more formal. But as Double Monks, these shoes can’t really be truly formal. The double buckles with that much metal would certainly put quite a few people off at formal occasions. In my view, Double Monks are more playful shoes, which I’d consider inappropriate for a funeral, even if this black version would probably be better than chunky white sneakers. That said, I actually like black Double Monks like these quite a bit for the office.

Special features

Double Monks are quite exotic shoes and provoke mixed reactions: While some people consider them very stylish and interesting, others strongly dislike them—even regardless of the occasion. You’re on the safe side if you don’t wear Double Monks to formal or business occasions. The Double Monk is a fairly playful shoe that can attract a lot of attention, which is the last thing you want at serious meetings.

So let’s look at the Double Monk primarily as a casual shoe: Here I find the Double Monk a very enriching model. Because it’s so different even compared to the Single Monk, it will attract attention everywhere. But that’s fine in your free time—if I want to try something out, it’s most likely here. The attention a Double Monk draws is also very understandable, because it’s simply so exotic and rare.

Comparison to the Single Monk

Compared to the Single Monk, a Double Monk has

  • a much larger area where the buckles are attached
  • two smaller buckles instead of one larger one

The contrast between the large, covering leather area at the top and the small buckles attached to it is also interesting. I think that contributes greatly to the distinctiveness of this model.
